    Email countdown timer questions

What is an email countdown timer?

An email countdown timer is an animated GIF in an email that shows the time left until a deadline, such as the end of a sale. Email can't run JavaScript, so the GIF is generated on the server at the moment the email is opened, and each reader sees the real time remaining.

How do I add a countdown timer to an email?

Make the timer, copy its image tag, and paste it into an HTML block in Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Shopify Email, HubSpot, Brevo, Omnisend or any tool that shows images. Email can't run JavaScript, so the timer is an image that BrandTimer redraws as a GIF each time the email is opened.

    Is BrandTimer free?

Yes, there is a free plan with no card: your own HTML and CSS, every template, one date for everyone, 2 live timers, 20,000 opens a month and AI restyles, with a small BrandTimer badge. Pro starts at $10 a month billed yearly and adds each contact's own date, deadlines from first open, last-hours messages, unlimited timers and no badge. Business adds repeating deadlines, links that change after the deadline, the Apple Mail card, opens by email app and 5 brand kits.

Does it work with Klaviyo, Mailchimp and Shopify Email?

Yes. The timer is a regular image: paste the image tag into an HTML block, or the image link into an image block. Any email platform that lets you do either can show it.

Can each contact have a different deadline?

Yes. Add a date field from your email platform to the image link, for example ?end={{ person.deadline }}. Each contact sees the time left until their own date.

How does it work with Apple Mail privacy protection?

Apple Mail with privacy protection loads images when the email arrives, so a ticking timer can show the time of delivery. For timers with one date, you can show Apple a still image with the end date instead, which is always right. We recognise Apple's proxy by how it requests the image; Apple could change that.

Do I need to know HTML?

No. Pick a template, change the words, units and colours with plain controls, or paste your website and let AI apply your brand. The code is there when you want it.

    What do Outlook readers see?

Outlook for Windows only shows the first frame of a GIF, so those readers see the correct time at the moment they open, without the ticking. Gmail, Apple Mail, Outlook on the web and phones show the full animation.

What happens if I go over my plan's opens?

Your timer keeps working; we never switch it off in the middle of a campaign. We let you know, and only ask you to move up a plan if it happens two months in a row.
